Privacy
A vehicle record is meant to outlive its owner. That only works if the record and the person stay strictly separated, so most of this document is about what we will never publish.
This site is a demonstration build. It has no accounts, no database and no server. Nothing you type into it is transmitted or stored, no cookies are set, and no analytics or tracking scripts run. The sections below describe both what is true of the build you are looking at now and what is true of the product as specified.
What is never published
These are architectural guarantees, not settings. They hold even if the vehicle record is public and even if the car is listed for sale.
- Your full VIN. Only the last four characters are ever displayed, and the full number is stored hashed or encrypted rather than in the clear.
- Your phone number or email address. Contact happens through the platform. See Safe Contact.
- Your name on a custody record. Past custodians appear as a count and a date range. A record can show that a car had three owners without revealing who any of them were.
- Your location below city level. Radius search operates on an approximate point, never an address.
- Your documents. Titles, registration papers and service invoices live in a private bucket behind expiring signed URLs. A public vehicle page can prove that evidence exists without ever showing it.
What is public on a vehicle record
- Make, model, variant and year of manufacture
- Country and city of registration
- The odometer graph, with each reading labelled as verified fact or owner claim
- Your answers to the disclosure checklist, including the ones left unanswered
- The custody record, anonymised as described above
- The service and modification timeline you choose to publish
- Anything you write as a post, story or comment
Verified facts, claims and comments stay separate
A mileage reading backed by a service invoice is not the same kind of statement as a number typed into a form, and a community comment is not evidence of anything. We keep the three visually and structurally distinct, and we never merge them into a single score.
The Mileage Integrity Check reports inconsistencies, not accusations. Where a record shows a decrease in recorded mileage, we show the date, the size of the drop and the evidence on either side. We do not conclude that anyone lied, because the record cannot support that conclusion. A replaced instrument cluster, a reset and a simple mis-entry all look identical from here.
What the product collects
In the live product, the minimum we need is an email address or a verified phone number for an account, a display currency and unit preference, and whatever you choose to attach to a vehicle. We do not require a legal name to browse, to follow a car or to publish a record.
We use the aggregate view counts on your own vehicles to help you see whether a listing is getting attention. We do not sell data, and we do not build advertising profiles.
Storage, retention and deletion
Vehicle records are designed to be permanent, which means retention is a product decision rather than a policy one. A record you sell stays, because the point is that the next owner inherits the history.
Your account and your private documents are different. You can delete your account at any time, which removes your profile and your personal data. Where deleting your account would orphan a record that a buyer now depends on, the vehicle record and its factual history survive; your name, contact details and documents do not.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your personal data at any time from your account settings, and you can withdraw a vehicle record from public view without deleting it. Because the platform is global, we honour the data-protection rights of the jurisdiction you are in, including the GDPR and POPIA.
